During 2005 SWPLC members were part of a Community Learning Partnership Project, Digital Message Stick, that included Mornington Penisula Shire Council and indigenous communities and individuals with links to Hastings, Victoria, in particular the Kaala Koorie Community Association, the Torrong Co-Operative. The major aim of the Digital Message Stick Project was to utilise an Information and Communication Technologies tool - digital storytelling - for community development and capacity building. It enabled the local indigenous community to utilise modern technologies across a range of dimensions.
It was a wonderful experience for our tutors to be
able to learn more about local indigenous people and their stories. We were
fortunate to have a very talented artist amongst the group who brought in
her ‘work in progress’ for the girls to enjoy each week as it
was created. Here for your enjoyment, are a few of their digital stories.
I hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed teaching the skills and watching
these powerful stories come together.
Please note, the digital story files (click on the links, above) are large files (3-4mb's) so it's best viewed with ADSL or Cable as they take a long time to load with dial up.
